Another successful lake competition was held on Lough Lene on the 09th September 2023. Not what you would call ideal conditions, the competition still went ahead. It was a beautiful bright sunny day with temperatures reaching well into the mid 20s. 14 boats took part. Each boat was a draw for partners. The format was heaviest fish on the boat. For 12 boats there was no fish to be had. 2 boats were successful, as they say, the cream always rises to the top. In first position was the ever successful Tommy Keogan and partner Paul French. Both had one fish each, both fish well over 3lbs. In 2nd place was Colm Gallagher and Gerry Casey and again both had a fish and both of these fish were over the 3lb mark. Congratulations to the 4 good anglers. For the rest of us we had a draw for prizes. First drawn out was Derry Leonard and Joe O Donnell, followed by Denis O Donovan and Enda Hyland, Paul Connor and Michael Hyland, Dermot Leonard and Sean Madden. A special thank you was awarded to Tommy Fagan who also provided the use of a couple of boats. A very special mention to Tommy Keogan for organising the day. It must be said this is a great day out even though I didn’t even see a fish, I really enjoyed the day. Already looking forward to next seasons competition.
As mentioned in an earlier news bulletin, the 80th Anniversary club competition which was rescheduled for Saturday 16/09/2023 had to be cancelled again due to high and rising water. As you know we have had a very high number of cancellations for the same reason this season. From my memory I believe this has been the worst season for rain and very high water making conditions making the river dangerous and not fishable. At this late stage of the season I would doubt if it will be possible to fish any of the outstanding competitions. Just in case, keep an eye out on the club text and here in the News area of the web site for further updates.
